Storm Drainage Inside an Existing Lot

Catch Basin & Trench Drain Installation — Solve Ponding and Move Water Off the Lot

Standing water is the slow killer of a parking lot. Water sits, freezes, expands, lifts the pavement, and the next car that drives through pops the surface free.

Quick Answer

Catch basins and trench drains move surface water off a parking lot before it ponds, freezes, or undermines the pavement. New basins solve persistent ponding spots; trench drains capture sheet flow across driveways and dock approaches; frame and grate replacement restores failing existing structures. We install, tie into existing storm systems, and patch back the surrounding pavement.

What this service includes

Every project from Maisano Brothers Inc. covers the work that makes the result last.

Drainage walk

We walk the lot in dry conditions and ideally after a rain to identify ponding points, sheet-flow paths, and undersized existing structures.

New catch basin installation

Pre-cast concrete catch basins are set on a stone base at the lot low point, with the right frame and grate for the load and surface.

Trench drain runs

Linear trench drains are installed across driveways, dock approaches, and entrances where sheet flow has to be captured the full width of the path.

Frame and grate replacement

Failed or undersized frames and grates are replaced with the right hardware for the surface and traffic load.

Pipe tie-in to existing storm system

New structures are connected to the existing storm system or to a daylight outlet with proper pipe, bedding, and joints.

Pavement patch-back

Asphalt around the new structures is saw-cut, removed, and patched cleanly so the lot stays flush and water sheds correctly.

Is This Right For You?

When this service makes sense

  • Your parking lot has persistent puddles after rain.
  • Ice keeps forming at the same spots every winter.
  • Pavement is cracking and lifting around an existing catch basin or in a low spot.
  • An existing frame and grate is broken, sunken, or sized for less traffic than the lot now sees.
  • You're paving or expanding a lot and need drainage added or extended.

Not sure what you need?

Our free on-site estimate includes an honest assessment and a clear recommendation — no pressure, no obligation.

Our Process

How we deliver this service

A clear, proven sequence from first call to finished project.

  1. 1

    Drainage walk

We walk the lot and identify the drainage problem and the structures and runs that will solve it.

  2. 2

    Written estimate

We provide a clear estimate by structure type, pipe linear feet, and pavement patch-back.

  3. 3

    Excavation and structure set

We excavate, set the catch basin or trench drain on a stone base, and place the frame and grate at finished grade.

  4. 4

    Pipe and tie-in

Pipe is laid on bedding to proper slope and connected to the existing storm system.

  5. 5

    Pavement patch-back and walkthrough

Asphalt is patched cleanly and we walk the finished work with you.

Quality & Craftsmanship

Materials, equipment, and quality

The standards and details that separate work built to last from work built to look finished.

Grate set just below finished grade

A grate that sits proud catches plow blades; a grate that sits too low traps debris. We set grates a quarter-inch below finished asphalt so water flows in and tools roll over.

Frame matched to the traffic load

H-20 highway-load frames for any path a truck or trash truck crosses. Lighter-duty frames are fine for landscape areas. We pick the right one.

Pipe bedding done right

Pipe needs a proper bedding course or it sags and the line clogs. We bed pipe on the right stone and compact it in lifts.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need a new catch basin or just frame and grate replacement?

A drainage walk tells us. If water gets to the existing basin but the hardware is failed, it's a frame and grate job. If water doesn't get to a basin at all, the lot needs a new structure at the low point.

Can you add a catch basin to an existing parking lot without redoing the whole lot?

Yes — that is the usual job. We saw-cut the asphalt, dig the structure pit, set the basin, tie into the storm system, and patch the surrounding asphalt.

What about trench drains at the entrance to a building?

Yes — trench drains across an entrance or dock approach catch sheet flow that a single catch basin can't. We size and install the trench drain and tie it into the storm system.

Do you handle the tie-in to municipal storm sewer?

Yes — where the existing structure connects to a municipal storm sewer, we coordinate with the town and tie in to spec.
