Parking lot bollards are concrete-filled steel posts set into the pavement to stop vehicles from striking storefronts, fuel pumps, gas meters, transformers, propane tanks, dumpster enclosures, ADA ramps, and pedestrian zones. Properly installed bollards are embedded in a concrete footing sized to absorb impact, capped, and painted to high-visibility standards.

What this service includes
Every project from Maisano Brothers Inc. covers the work that makes the result last.
Site assessment and bollard layout
We walk the property with you, identify the assets that need protection, confirm vehicle-approach angles, and lay out bollard spacing per ASTM and local code.
Core drilling or excavation
We core-drill through existing asphalt or concrete, or excavate fresh footings, to the depth required for the bollard rating.
Concrete-filled steel bollards
We install schedule-40 or schedule-80 steel pipe bollards, typically 4 to 6 inches in diameter, set into a poured concrete footing and filled with concrete.
Footing pour and grade restoration
Each bollard is set in a poured-concrete footing sized for impact resistance, then the surrounding asphalt or concrete is patched and finished.
High-visibility cap and paint
Bollards are capped, primed, and painted with traffic-grade safety yellow (or owner-specified colour) so they remain visible day and night.
When this service makes sense
- Your storefront, drive-through window, or office faces a parking row with no curb between vehicles and the building.
- You operate fuel pumps, propane tanks, gas meters, electrical transformers, or other utilities exposed to vehicle impact.
- Your dumpster enclosure, generator pad, or HVAC equipment has been struck or is at risk.
- Your insurer or local code official has flagged unprotected assets in a vehicle path.
- You are designing a new parking lot and want bollards installed as part of the original work rather than as a retrofit.
Not sure what you need?
Our free on-site estimate includes an honest assessment and a clear recommendation — no pressure, no obligation.
How we deliver this service
A clear, proven sequence from first call to finished project.
- 1
Free on-site assessment
We walk the property, identify assets at risk, and confirm bollard placement, spacing, and rating.
- 2
Written estimate and scheduling
We provide a clear written estimate by bollard count and footing size, and schedule the work around your operations.
- 3
Core drilling or excavation
We core through existing pavement or dig fresh footings to the depth the rating requires.
- 4
Bollard setting and concrete pour
Steel pipe bollards are plumbed, set in the footing, and the bollards are filled with concrete to absorb impact.
- 5
Patch back and finish
Surrounding asphalt or concrete is patched cleanly so the work blends into the existing surface.
- 6
Paint and final walkthrough
We prime and paint the bollards in the specified colour, then walk the finished work with you.

Materials, equipment, and quality
The standards and details that separate work built to last from work built to look finished.
Concrete-filled steel, not hollow pipe
A hollow bollard bends on first impact. Filling the pipe with concrete is what lets it absorb a vehicle strike and stay standing.
Footing sized for impact, not just frost
Bollard footings have to resist lateral impact loads, not only frost heave. We pour footings to the depth and diameter the asset and vehicle approach require.
Core-drilled installs that don't crack adjacent slabs
When we install bollards through existing concrete, we core-drill rather than break the slab — the surrounding pavement stays intact.
Traffic-grade paint that survives the lot
We use the same traffic-grade safety paint we use for line striping. It survives weather, salt, and routine cleaning so the bollards stay visible.

How deep does a bollard footing need to be?
A protective parking-lot bollard footing is typically 36 to 48 inches deep with a diameter two to three times the bollard pipe, depending on the bollard rating and the loads it has to stop. Frost depth in Connecticut sets the minimum; impact rating usually drives it deeper.
What size and material do you install?
Most retail and storefront jobs use 4-inch or 6-inch schedule-40 or schedule-80 steel pipe, concrete-filled, set in a poured concrete footing. Higher-security or higher-speed approaches use larger diameters and rated bollards.
Can you add bollards to an existing parking lot without tearing it up?
Yes. We core-drill the existing asphalt or concrete, pour the footing, set the bollard, and patch the surface cleanly. The lot stays usable while we work.
How many bollards do I need?
Spacing depends on the asset and the approach. Storefronts typically use bollards every 4 feet across the at-risk face; fuel islands, dumpster enclosures, and utility installations follow code or owner-specified spacing. We confirm spacing during the site walk.
Do you paint and cap the bollards?
Yes — we cap every bollard and paint it with traffic-grade safety paint (typically yellow). Owners can specify alternative colours where branding requires it.
